"Let the good times roll"

Over the last few weeks we have had a couple days off together and definitely made the most of them :)  It is fun when every day off feels like a mini vacation up here.

DAY ONE started with waking up at 4:55am so we could catch sunrise at Snake River Overlook (the spot where Ansel Adams took his famous picture of the Tetons) and then onto Mormon Row Barns (supposedly the most famous photographed barns in the world). 

Next, we went on a 4 hr. hike around Phelps Lake.  After the hike we warmed up in the visitor center after getting rained on and admired their fine collection of preserved animal poo.

Our final activity of the day was a ride up a 10,400 ft. mountain on the park's aerial tram.  Of course right when we started up the tram we realized our camcorder had no memory card in it.  We continued this trend of absent-mindlessness (maybe its the altitude!) when we found ourselves without a camera while watching a moose and her day-old baby on our way back to our dorm.  We will try to do better next time...

DAY TWO started with another early wake-up call so we could catch the sunrise at Oxbow bend...which did not dissapoint. 

Next stop, a 4 hr. hike around Jenny Lake where we visisted Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point.  Along the way we found ourselves overrun with marmots (11 of the fuzzy suckers!) and came face to face with what could be the mountain's cutest rodent...the friendly Pika. 

The afternoon's activity was a 10 mile float trip down the Snake River in a giant rubber raft.  We got a great view of the mountains, learned lots of interesting facts, and saw a few Bald Eagles.  We had a marvelous time.

As we are writing this we have just been warned that two bears are headed our way so we must sign off...Have a great day and be bear safe!

The GRAND Tetons

We have officially been living in Grand Teton National Park for over a week now and the view never gets old...

 

One of the best hobbies we have picked up together as a married couple, is photography.  Jesse is much better at handling the camera then me, but I still manage to get a few good pics like the one above.  Jesse was determined to capture a good pic as well and went on a  short hike to capture these two beautiful images.  Pretty amazing what a 15-20 min. walk from our room will get us!

  

 

Tomorrow is our first day off TOGETHER :)  We are excited for more adventures and more stories to post from our GRAND adventure at the Tetons.  

 

 

"On the road again..."

We set off on another adventure, traveling 13 hours in our little Honda Civic towards the Grand Tetons!  We split the travel time into 2 days and made a stop in Rawlins, Wyoming for the night.  It worked out great splitting the drive so we were able to "dilly daddle" along the way and gave ourselves plenty of time to get checked in and situated into our new home for the next 4 months, Colter Bay Village.

We are excited for nicer weather (it has been snowing on and off the last few days) and for some shared time off so we can get out and  explore!  The mountains are picture perfect, so we are looking forward to some great photo opportunities to share with ya'll :)

 

"Go West Young Man!" (and wife)

Korea is long gone and we have decided to answer the call of the West (even if we are 150 years late) and head out to Grand Teton National Park this summer.   We will be working in Colter Bay Village on the shores of Jackson Lake.  It is a hot spot for recreation in the Tetons with opportunities for fishing, hiking, kayaking, and other outdoor pursuits. 

Teresa will be working as a hostess at the Ranch House and I will be in charge of Tent City.  We will be starting our latest adventure mid-May and working until late September.  Hold on to your horses, it's gonnna be exciting!  Equally exciting is the opportunity you will have to continue reading the blog.

Paris...Part FIVE

The Louvre

How can you tell when you have found a good husband?  Well, at least for me... when he plans a weekend trip to Paris :)

I'm not trying to brag, but boy did my hubby do a good job!  He told me it was our 2 year anniversary/ Birthday/ Christmas gifts to each other and planned 2 full days of touring the sites of Paris, having a pizza picnic under the Eiffel tower, and eating french crepes along the river.




To top it all off he sent email after email so he could get us a room with a view like this...  

What a wonderful way to end a wonderful year with my husband of two years now...(it seems like so much longer...but in a good way)  He is my adventure buddy for a lifetime and I can't wait to see the next adventures God has in store for our lives! 

Hong Kong to Amsterdam....Part FOUR

Sometimes the best places to visit are the ones you stumble upon along your journey...

Our last stop in China before heading to Europe was Hong Kong.  After taking the night bus we walked (or wandered around confused depending on how you look at it...) until we found the Hong Kong border.  We crossed the border and hopped on their subway system until we reached Lantau Island where the Hong Kong International airport is located AND the Ngong Ping 360 cable car.

Fortunately we had 12 hrs. before our flight left for Europe...plenty of time to ride the cable car across the bay and up the mountain to the WORLD'S LARGEST SEATED BRONZE BUDDHA STATUE!

We glanced at the statue for a few minutes and decided we better start the7 mile hike back down the mountain.  We made it to the airport drenched in sweat and happy after an exciting hike through the Hong Kong rainforest.  If you ever want to see the Omaha rainforest in real life than Hong Kong is the place to head! Although exhausting, this was definitely a highlight of our entire trip.   After a quick wet-wipe "shower" we were on the overnight plane heading towards Amsterdam.

After layovers in Thailand and Jordan we left Asia for the first time in a year and made it to Amsterdam early in the morning.  It turns out Amsterdam is beautiful! We spent the day walking along the canals (we've heard it has more canals than Venice) and ended up walking completely across Amsterdam before reaching the bus stop in the evening to jump on an overnight bus to Paris!!
